Will you go to the PROM with me?

My husband and I are 6 weeks apart and this year, we turn 40. Now to be clear, I’m still in my 30’s. Until this Saturday that is…

Since we both wanted a party to celebrate the big 4-0 and we have so many friends who live outside of the city, we thought it would make the most sense to throw a party together.

Adam’s birthday is in October and mine is December so we landed on November 3rd for the big bash. Being that it was the weekend following Halloween I thought it would be fun to go with a theme and ask our guests to dress up. I decided to go back to the 80s…and went the extra mile by making it a PROM.  Adam and I were both children of the 80’s and it was such a fun decade, I just couldn’t resist.

I came up with all sorts of fun ideas for this party but I did not want to do a thing. I passed along my vision to the girls in my office and they ran with it. I walked into the venue and died with joy. It was perfect and then some…Huge huge Thanks to my dream team: Maggie, Natalie and Shaylan for pulling off the most fabulous party of my life.

For starters, we chose the perfect venue:  Industria. Located in the west village this venue is a raw space that was spacious enough to fit all our guests and have enough space for all of the different elements of the party.

I once looked into an 80’s cover band for a client and always kept them in mind for future opportunities. Well this was the perfect party for Rubix Kube. This band was off the handles amazing. I cannot put into words how fun they were. They had the most amazing set (Ronald Regan!!), outfit changes for every song and they had the most perfect set list.

I wanted a late night dance party so when the band ended, we transitioned over to DJ NVM who pumped out dance tunes till 1am.

There were so many cool details that we spun into the decor making the venue feel like you walked into an actual prom. My favorite was the huge, oversized vinyls that Maggie designed and had Bombshell Graphics install.

Maggie also took kid photos of Adam and I and turned them into adorable signage for the custom drinks at our bar.

Natalie sourced tons of old school props to style all over the venue along with a super fun selection of 80’s candy.

The girls also nailed it with all the balloons, balloon garlands and a stunning balloon backdrop for our 80’s prom photo booth that we brought Z Studios in for.

Something that I will always remember from this night was bringing the kids for the first hour of the party. They have always shown a great interest in my business but they had never experienced one of my parties. When I asked them if they wanted to come to the party for the first hour they screamed YES! We found velvet suits for them to wear and they ROCKED THE HOUSE! They wer having so much fun, eating a ton of candy and I just didn’t want the party to end for them. So they stayed an hour longer than planned.

I really don’t even know how to put this party into words. It was perfection in every way. From the perfectly executed details to the delicious food by Pinch Food Design to all of our closest friends and family who not only came to party but decked out in the most fabulous costumes I have ever seen. Feeling pretty lucky and very blessed as I enter my 40’s this weekend.
