Luke's Birthday Farewell

Every year since celebrating Luke’s first birthday, we have hosted a pool party in our backyard. This year, for the first time in 8 years, we will not be hosting Luke’s annual birthday bash. Luke will be at camp over his birthday. I’m both sad that I won’t be with my baby this year on his 9th birthday AND happy that he gets a whole new and exciting experience.

Since we will not be able to give Luke a birthday greeting in person this year, I went to my local Walmart to pick out some supplies for his farewell birthday party, starting with the cutest cards from AMERICAN GREETINGS®.I even picked out some additional ones I thought Luke would like for his friends to fill out at the party because it’s important to me that he feels remembered even when he’s miles away at camp. It’s time to stop forgetting and start celebrating!

When Luke was not looking, I put these cards into his camp backpack so he would have them (by surprise!) when he got to camp. I made sure to add a note:  DO NOT OPEN UNTIL YOUR BIRTHDAY!

I’ve always been one to make a big deal for a birthday and my kids are no different.  There’s no doubt Luke will love and appreciate these cards. One of the cards even included a fun Mad Libs activity that he can do with his friends at camp once he opens them!

A handwritten note always goes a long way. I wrote Luke a message in one card telling him how proud I am of his accomplishments and how much I will miss him this summer but that I know he’s having the experience of a lifetime and I hope he enjoys every moment.
