A Wet Noodle on Shelter Island

Let me start this post by apologizing for announcing the winner of our Naptime Chef contest so late in the evening…you’ll have to bare with me as I was alone today. Doesn’t sound like a big deal does it?  Well it is when you take a toddler to Sunset Beach and your 37 weeks pregnant and feeling like the baby is just going to rip through the skin of your stomach.  I’ll explain – hang on…
So please allow me to announce the winner of this contest now!  Better late at 10:30pm at night then never!  Congratulations to Gail Kuroda! Please email me here to claim your prize you lucky lady you!
Ok – now let’s talk about my day…
One of my favorite things to do during the summer is to drive past all of the quaint little farm stands on route 25 outside of Riverhead and take my car right onto the ferry in Greenport for a 7 minute ride to Shelter Island. The island is quiet, beautiful and there is so much fun beach-y stuff to do. So today I took my lil man, packed up and went to meet our friends Swanna & Christian for lunch at the trendy Sunset Beach. The decor is yellow like the sun, the people are gorgeous and the food is fresh and delish.

Looking onto the beach and being held down while waiting to “feed the baby” was not ideal for my 2.5 year old son. So we walked around the Sunset beach grounds and made due till our food arrived. Luckily the lil guy was hungry so he ate up every bite of his chicken, fries and tomato, cucumber and feta salad until he went A-wall to get out of dodge and put his feet in the sand. About 20 minutes prior to leaving I looked up for a brief moment and stared head on to Alec Baldwin and his new wife who proceeded to sit right behind us for lunch. Not sure if you’ve heard but Alec has a bit of an issue with the paparazzi and tends to clock them out if they get too close. Well aside from my own self portrait with Mr. Alec who you’ll see wearing all white and a beach hat behind us here, my lil man thought it would be fun to pull my camera out of my beach bag and point it directly at Alec’s table. I’ve never been so nervous in my whole life. Get a shot of him and don’t get knocked out I was thinking. Neither went down and we made a very quick getaway before Alec and co. caught on…

After hanging at the Sunset beach for a bit, chasing dogs through the water and collecting beautiful seashells, we hit up the adorable hotel that Swanna & Christian were staying at for the week.  The Pridwin Hotel is located conveniently 1/4 mile down the road from Sunset Beach, has private cottages, a restaurant that serves fresh seafood daily and a beautiful view of the water and boats.

The lil man had a ball splashing around in the pool for the afternoon here especially when he discovered what he could achieve with 3 noodles under his arms…that’s right folks. He was floating around the pool – adult free. Though we were close by…he was not letting us hold on. Great discovery and pretty darn cute. Not to mention, perfectly exhausting for a peaceful drive home.
